Our Philosophy

Personal Accountability may, for some people, sound a lot like responsibility and for many people adding more responsibility is just adding more to full plate. This stems from the feeling of overwhelm and the most common reaction to that is avoidance. However, accountability and responsibility are commonly misunderstood and absolutely necessary for personal empowerment and evolvement. In fact accountability leads to a sense of peace and freedom. When a person has the attitude of accountability they automatically start acting with more awareness and making better choices. The word responsibility can read response ability or the ability to respond. Accountability can read the same – account ability or the ability to be accountable for one’s choices and actions. Some time spent practicing accountability and responsibility will lead to a fulfilling and empowered life experience.

Understanding ourselves and each other is the foundation upon which any healthy relationship is built. Without understanding the nature of feeling, behavior will tend to appear random, causing confusion on both sides of a relationship. This confusion leads to blame, anger, resentment and power struggle. After a while the power struggle becomes bigger than the original issue because the feelings are out of context to what is actually going on. Taking the time to understand the complexity of human behavior allows everyone the space to evolve through feelings and emotions and stop having the same old reactions.

Clear communication saves a lot of potential grief. As a person becomes more authentic, (more okay with who they are) that person will be able to share, listen and respond appropriately in communication with others.

Resolution is the result of effective personal work. Issues that could have dragged on forever don’t because they’ve been sorted out, understood, felt through and released. Often times things don’t change, and other people don’t change but if you decide to resolve your issues, the result is you change and that changes everything.

Practical Living ~ No matter what we strive for in life, the bottom line is that we are human beings with human limitations. We do the best we can with what we are given and so anything that is to be useful must be usable. The process of personal or spiritual development can be confusing but it doesn’t have to be. In order for any theory, technique or practice to have validity it must pass a simple test; can I apply it to my life and make it work?

Personal Values ~ You have a lifetime of experience which has formed in you a set of values that fit for you and change with you over time, as you change. Your personal values are important because they help to form your identity. Your values belong in you and my values belong in me. Successful counseling techniques recognize the importance of this natural law.
